Additive Manufacturing | Ceramic Process Development | Materials Characterization
THE CHALLENGE
Develop a practical extrusion-based process for shaping silica feedstock, scaling printed geometry, and converting fragile green parts into useful ceramic components.
MY CONTRIBUTION
I developed and modified deposition hardware, sample handling, heated processing fixtures, and experimental methods used to explore printing, scale-up, sintering, and machining. I used iterative hardware development and microscopy to connect process conditions with deposition quality, porosity, dimensional stability, and the final material structure.
OUTCOME
The work demonstrated substantially larger printed silica forms, established a path from deposition through sintering and machining, and contributed to patented additive-manufacturing hardware and process concepts.
