Technical Leadership | Manufacturing Operations | Capability Development
THE CHALLENGE
Modernize an aging research machine shop, improve job flow, and rebuild confidence in its ability to deliver prototype hardware for demanding R&D programs.
MY CONTRIBUTION
As interim manager, I supervised six senior research machinists and introduced a visible online work queue, improved materials stocking and job prioritization, and coordinated shop scheduling with engineering customers. I surplussed or sold obsolete equipment, cleared long-neglected areas, and procured new shears, presses, brakes, tool storage, and supporting equipment. I also guided the shop through approval as a government-recognized third-party manufacturing resource.
OUTCOME
The shop gained clearer workflow, improved responsiveness, safer and more useful floor space, and modernized fabrication capability for internal and external programs.
SELECTED EVIDENCE
Before-and-after shop photographs; new-equipment move-in; machinists collaborating; cleared production areas; job-cycle-time trend chart when available.
